Greetings,
This episode has taking a weight off my shoulder., Being new to IFA I had a reading and was informed I need to become a priest and make the hand of ISAFA (sp ?) humbled and honored.
After walking down several spiritual paths, IFA is resonating with me. I have been reading books and trying to figure it all out. I want 101 foundation In the tradition before I move forward and shell out more money.
As a new person to IFA, I feel disheartened. . My take from this podcast is to get another reading done before diving into taking the hand of ISAFA.
So do I sit tight and learn more about IFA before my next reading?
How can I learn about IFA without going broke?
What is the purpose of an ILA?
Thank you for keeping my eyes and ears open about the ways of this tradition. Peace and continued blessings.
Thank you so much for writing. I agree that it can be overwhelming and disheartening at the same time.
Yes… you might need to get the hand of IFA… but I promise you that if it was THAT urgent… you would have left that priest’s house with it…. or come back to get it tomorrow. It can wait. The way to learn about Ifa… is with readings and eboes, until some types of initiations. If you are going broke… then don’t do ANYTHING… and I mean anything. Your question on ila? What is that? Are you talking about the ilas (cuts on the face?) or ile – the spiritual house.
Question for you… if you are still asking questions about what is what… I wouldn’t do anything. Not just yet… just readings and spiritual work. And if they are saying You need this initiation… and you are not ready just yet — say these magical words ‘I am not ready for that just yet, what ebo can be marked for that?’
Thanks for writing to us.
I received my warriors. Hage my elekes and ide. Got my shrine. But I’m missing community. I’m wondering if I’m feeling lost because I didn’t grow up w it like my padrino. I feel like I need to be walked through it bc I get in overthinking mode. There’s much intuitively I understand that i consciously don’t know the process of so I assume I’m doing something wrong. Then I feel guilty approaching my shrine/altar for taking so long to feel comfortable enough to approach. Mainly bc I’m always saying the same things and I don’t want to annoy them or ask for things. Idk mainly venting rn. My readings suggest my soul is advanced I just feel I’m missing the steps to deal w that. (I.e, ajogun showing up in people when i give readings or cleanse homes, being visited or accidently visiting orisha/lwa/land of the dead(?)) When I tap in, it’s intense trying to build a foundation but w lucumi, as an Aleyo… idk I feel lonely I guess. Lost. Connected and disconnected at the same time.
